about the Lichfield Diocese

The Lichfield Diocese is the Church of England in the north West Midlands. It traces its roots back to AD 656 when the Diocese of Mercia was formed. In the past the diocese stretched from the Welsh border to the North Sea; and from Northumberland to the Thames. Though shrunk to Staffordshire, the northern half of Shropshire, Wolverhampton, Walsall and half of Sandwell, it is still a place of great variety.
This diversity has resulted in a respect for local traditions and awareness of the need to consider people's context in thinking about mission and ministry. All the adult education resources that are produced aim to encourage church members to think about what the Christian Gospel means in their place, at this time.
So all the courses that are available emphasize the importance of working as a group, talking, sharing and learning from each other, as what is studied becomes relevant and living in people's experience. Many of the study packs are designed to be led locally - anyone can lead them, as they require a good facilitator to bring the group together, rather than a theological expert. They are avaliable for use across the West Midlands Region, by members of all the partner churches.
Lichfield Diocese has a reputation for taking lay discipleship seriously, believing that the Church is composed of communities that are ministering in God's name.
